Style Yourself Fabulous!

Photo Courtesy of Wayne Tippetts (Streetstyle Aesthetic)

If you think that you weren’t born with the “Rachel Zoe” or “Marian Kihogo” gene (pictured here) or if finding stylish clothing to fit your shape and personality is near impossible then this article is for you. Styling yourself appropriately can mean the difference between a great first impression or a lasting bad impression. It can sometimes even make or break getting the job you want. So we’ve compiled a few style tips that we’ve picked up over the years that are easy to remember and implement. These tips are sure to help bring out your inner stylista:

Tip #1: Want to rock this season’s hottest fashions without breaking the bank? Instead of investing in expensive clothing items that may not last more than one season, match the season’s latest accessory trends with a classic. For instance, this season pair a plain black dress with colorful suede pumps or a chain necklace.

Tip #2: Though the monochromatic look does work at times, adding a pop of color is a sure way to make a statement with any ensemble. Adding a turquoise necklace to a gray dress, red shoes to an all-black outfit or a colorful belt to a white button down shirt and jeans will make people take notice (and in a good way).

Tip #3: Jackets can be a wardrobe life saver. If you are especially endowed in the bust area or are a plus sized woman, try adding well-cut, structured jackets to your outfits. A well-cut and structured jacket helps to cinch you in much like a nice belt. They can help draw attention away from your trouble zones and towards the other areas of your body or they can simply be the statement piece around which the rest of your outfit is built.

Tip #4: The fit factor is ultra important. If you put on an item of clothing and it tugs, pulls, buckles or feels tight in any area that it shouldn’t then that’s your cue to do one of two things, either go up a size or don’t wear it. Some styles, no matter what size, just won’t fit well on your body and that’s okay. Just try on other shapes until you can isolate which one goes with your body the best, then look for that same shape in other styles, colors, etc.

Tip #5: It’s all about visual interest. When you go to pick out any article of clothing, look for the visual interest. The visual interest is some detail about that garment that makes it special and interesting to look at. For example, it could be really pretty buttons on an otherwise boring button down shirt, or a uniquely cut collar or perhaps even a bit of ruffle detail like this Rebecca Taylor blazer.

The Vyne Nine: 9 Things We’re Obsessing Over

There are a few things that we are just LOVING right now. Whether we’re currently enjoying them or have them on our wish list, we wanted you to share in the fun too.

1. This Tory Burch Andra leather jacket is not only fabulous to look at, it also is so soft, it feels like butter! You will definitely feel like a rock star in this one.

2. These Paige Premium Denim Verdugo Jeggings are pure genius! As the name suggests, they are a true mix between jeans and leggings and are so comfortable, you will feel like you’re wearing pajamas.

3. We know we’ve talked about them before, but we just can’t keep them off this list. These invitation only sites keep us coming back every weekday at 11 AM ET  (RueLaLa) and 12 PM ET (The Gilt Groupe). If you’re not a member of RueLaLa email us so we can give you an invitation. If you’re not a member of Gilt, register here now.

4. Harney & Sons Cinnamon Teas. Check out both Hot Cinnamon Spice and Hot Cinnamon Sunset teas from Harney & Sons. It’s surprising that a tea would make us so happy, but once you try it, you’ll see why. The bold cinnamon flavor is really good, but what’s amazing is its sweetness without added sugar. Yum!

5. Imagine a Pinkberry with rice pudding instead of frozen yogurt and you’ll have Rice to Riches, located in NYC. Sounds a little bizarre, but it really is delicious. With an array of flavors and toppings, at Rice to Riches you can create the perfect decadent dessert.

Wish List

6. We don’t know about you, but when we hear “eco” and “jewelry” in the same sentence, though we’re intrigued, we don’t immediately think “style.” Well, Joy O proved us wrong with her Kyler line of sustainable eco jewelry including this Twine Collar Necklace.

7. We are loving this Nanette Lapore Modern Love wrap dress. Not only is it in one of our favorite colors, but the wrap style with the tie at the waist is flattering on just about any body type.

8. Spring is coming and we can’t wait to break out the peep toe shoes again. These Elizabeth and James “Ocean” Dorsay Pumps are high on our “wish list” and may just be the ones to debut our toes again once the temperatures warm up.

9. These Marc by Marc Jacobs 694931 ankle boots just scream “HOT”! We love the ruffle detailing and how they’re versatile enough to wear with jeans, pants or a dress.

Going to a Wedding and Don’t Know What to Wear?

Wedding WearIt’s peak wedding season and if you’re like us, you may have already received several invitations from friends getting married. To help with the “what am I going to wear?” question, here are a few ideas whether you’re attending an early, afternoon, or nighttime wedding.

Early Day Weddings
Weddings taking place early in the day tend to be less formal than nighttime weddings. If the wedding is taking place outdoors in a warm climate, remember to wear a breathable, flowing fabric, and stay away from silk which may show unsightly sweat spots.
1. BCBG MAXAZRIA Leaf Print Crinkle Satin Halter Gown, $378
2. Donna Morgan Tiered Chiffon Dress, $158
3. California Iris Dress, $69.95

Late Afternoon/Evening Weddings
With weddings taking place in the late afternoon or evening, the best bet is a dress that is not too formal, but doesn’t look like a sundress either. Given the season, bright colors are a great choice.
4. Tadashi Ruched Matte Jersey Dress, $298
5. Adrianna Papell Strapless Laser Cut Satin Dress, $158
6. Sue Wong Crisscross Silk Dress, $288

Night/Formal Weddings
Though an old rule of thumb used to be not to wear black to a wedding, formal weddings are the exception. If the wedding is after 6:00 or if the invitation indicates “formal” reception or attire, then these dresses would be appropriate. Also, even in the case of a “formal” wedding, you don’t have to wear a floor length dress – a cocktail dress is just fine.
7. Knit Floral Print Maxi Dress, $138
8. JS Collection Ribbed Trim Mesh Dress, $198
9. Donna Ricco Chain Halter Jersey Dress, $128
